The market
business was really slow that day. Only two people have come into
the grocery store of the small town known as Ageis.
A teenaged girl leaned over a moneybox, tapping her fingers on the counter. She gazed at a sword propped over the back door, when she heard a bell.
She turned her head towards the ring, and plastered on her cutest smile, "Good afternoon, sir!!"
The young man had a broad face, and cat-like eyes. His wispy red hair lightly brushed the sides of his face, just barely covering his golden eyes. His sideways smile caught her eyes, "Good afternoon."
She noticed a white streak in his hair as he turned his head to look at a melon, "A...anything I can help you with?"
The man picked up a bag of rice and walked to the counter, "Where is your chicken broth?"
The girl smiled, "Aaaah....someone has a stomach ache, huh?" she walked out from behind the counter to a shelf of spices, "Here's a jar of chicken broth, but here..." she handed the man the jar and ran behind the counter. She bent down and went through a few paper packets, she quickly snatched a packet and handed it to him, "...this'll help get rid of the discomfort."
He skeptically looked at the packet she was holding, and took it, "Uh, thanks..."
"Not a prob!" she smiled, "Can I get you anything else?" she rested her elbows on the counter.
"Hmm...." his eyes searched a few of the shelves behind the counter, and something caught his eye.
"Hmm?" the girl looked behind her at what the man was looking.
"What's that?" the cat-eyed man was referring to the sword.
"Oh. That's the family's sword. It's supposed to have some weird sort of power, but I'm not really sure what," the girl turned back to him and stated flatly, "But it's not for sale."
"No kidding..." the boy returned the tone of voice, and got out his money pouch, "Well, let's see how much it'll be..."
The girl added up the prices, "Lessee....that'll be 140 silver pieces."
The man set the amount on the counter when a gleam caught his eye. He suddenly leapt over the counter and shoved the girl down, yelling, "Look out!!!"
The girl yelped as they hit the ground with a 'thud'. Arrows sunk into the old wood of the counter, and into the wall where the girl would have been standing.
Silently sprawled over eachother on the ground, they looked up at an arrow above the girls head.
"A robbery?" the girl whispered, looking up at the man. She suddenly noticed her breathing was faster, as was the breathing of the man on top of her.
"I dont know," the man hissed, and stood up from behind the desk, "Whos there?!" he called out.
The girl stared at the man, scared, but deep down, she felt a twinge of excitement, Wow! These are just like the fairy tales Gramma told! Me, the beautiful, under-rated---and always boredIvy Dewshine is playing the damsel in distress! She began to dream up ways this could go on .she pictured her thanking him, and him pulling her closely. She could feel a quiet giggle in her throat as she pictured a romantic kiss .her fantasy suddenly ended as she saw a hideous face emerge from the shadows.
She yelped at the gruesome man with a humped over posture. The man revealed his disgusting, teethy grin. He spoke, his voice like nails across a chalkboard.
"Youve found me," his tone was amused, and he waddled closer towards the man, "Id recommend getting out of the way, boy, or youll get hurt."
The young man took a step to the side, blocking Ivy from this gruesome beast, and clenched his teeth.
The man looked over the youngers shoulder to look at Ivy, and grinned wider.
Ivy spotted pointed ears, An elf she thought, but was once again interrupted by a shelf falling on her. She screamed and covered her head as glass bottles fell on her, a few shattering on the ground next to her.
In a blur, the detestable elf was in front of Ivy, "Now Ivy, lets leave quietly, my dear."
The younger man leapt onto the elf, pushing him away.
Pinned to the ground, the elf managed to grunt, "Stay out of this, boy."
"The name is Adonis!" the young man tried to hold the elf to the ground.
The elf kicked him in the stomach, and into a wall. Ivy shrieked as Adonis had the wind knocked out of him.
The elf pulled out a jagged knife, and rose it in the air, "Now you die."
"PILOT!!!"
The elf froze when he heard the booming voice call his name.
"Cease this nonsense. You cannot handle this now."
"Yes, my lord," the elf sent a glare to Adonis, "Some other time, boy."
The cat-eyed man staggered up as the slave left as quickly as he came.
Ivy slowly stood, and ran over to help him up.
Adonis coughed, "What the hell was that?"
"Are you alright?" Ivy asked.
"Yeah, I was about to ask you the same thing," Adonis wiped off a bit of blood from Ivys face.
Ivys face turned red, "H-he scratched my face?! Oh, great, hes gonna get it next time I see him!!!" she paced angrily. She stopped, and looked at the store, "Man, this place is trashed."
"Lets get out of here."
Ivy turned around, "I beg your pardon?"
Adoniss golden eyes glistened, "Theyll be back for you. We gotta run."
Ivy sighed, "Well, I better snatch a few things. Who knows when Ill visit a grocery store again." Her eyes searched the store, and took a bag of two bread loaves. She snatched her leather sack and filled it with more food and a bandage roll. She closed it, and flung it over her back. She bit her bottom lip, and walked over to the box of money. She took half of the money and stuffed it into a pouch on her waist. She finally took the sword off the mount over the door. She held it for a second.
"I feel really bad for taking this," she said before buckling it onto her belt.
"Hurry, before people come," Adonis impatiently began looking out the windows.
"Ready!" Ivy ran to the back door, "This way."
They began to run out of the village. About two minutes into the running, Ivy stopped, gasping for air.
Adonis stopped, "Were not at my house yet."
Between pants, Ivy asked, "Can we walk?"
Adonis agreed and walked beside Ivy as she got out a loaf of bread, "So your name is Ivy."
"And yours is Adonis," Ivy casually replied, breaking off a piece of bread, "Have a last name?"
"Nope. You?"
"Its Dewshine," Ivy said with a mouthful, "Ivy Dewshine."
"Dewshine?" Adonis took a piece of bread Ivy offered him, and bit it, "Sounds like a fairys name to me."
"It is. I am." Ivy continued, "I was born with the power to switch from fairy to elf form."
"Ah. Who was the guy? Some ex-boyfriend?" Adonis teased.
"Get real. I dunno who the jerk was," Ivy looked around.
"Were here!" Adonis stopped in front of a moderately sized house of red brick.
Ivy gazed at the house, "Wow!" she ran up to the white picket fence, "You live here?!" she paused, and her smile faded, "Isnt it a bit large for just you?"
"Yeah, well, I live with my best friend. Hes not here right now, but he should be home in about an hour," Adonis opened the fence door for Ivy, and ran ahead to unlock the door, "Well let you get comfortable here. Its the least I can do."
"Thanks " Ivy walked in the house, and looked around.
The inside of the house was quaintly decorated. Quite unusual for a mans house, Ivy thought to herself as she lightly touched a candle on a rustic holder. Not too dirty either she rubbed her fingers together.
Adonis was clearing out a few things in a room, "You can put your things in here."
Ivy walked into the room slowly, looking around.
"Its not much, but its the only room I could think of," Adonis set out a few sheets and a pillow, "Let me go get a bed cushion " he ran out of the room.
Ivy set down her bag and looked outside. The sky was beginning to turn red as the sun began to set.
Adonis walked into the room once again. He rolled out the cushion and spotted Ivy staring out the window.
He walked behind Ivy, and put his hand on her shoulder, "Youll be safe here. He cant find you here. Randoruun and I will protect you."
Ivy turned a bit red, "Im not that helpless," she stated coldly, Ah! Dummy! Dummy! Dummy! What do you expect to come from that?! And he was getting so close to you, too
Adonis quickly let go and took a step back, "Well, you were a fat lot of help back at the store!" he snapped.
"I was in shock!" Ivy bickered back, "I had no clue what to do!"
"Sure. Whatever," Adonis shrugged and turned around.
Ivy growled and rose her hand to hit him with her fist. Adonis grabbed her wrist and turned back around, tripping Ivy flat on the floor.
"OW!" Ivy growled as she was sprawled on the floor. She yelped as she felt a hand pushing on her stomach.
Adonis grinned as he knelt next to her, "I say youll need all the protection you can get."
Ivy grimaced and kicked him in the stomach, "YOU JERK!!!" she heard a hollow thud when her foot hit his stomach. What the?! she thought.
His grin grew wider as he leaned closer to her.
Omigod---! Ivy squeezed her eyes shut fearfully.
A sound of a door opening, along with an "Im back!" made Adonis look up.
"Hey! Randoruun! Welcome back!" Adonis ran out of the room, "Here, lemme help you out."
Her eyes open, Ivy sat up, and rubbed her foot. She stared at the empty doorway.
Wh-what is he?!
